Kevin Pine takes over the helm as the interim head coach for the men's team for 2020-2021. Last season he assisted his brother Phillip Pine, who stepped down after his squad placed second at the National Championships in order to pursue other interests.
Pine also begins his second season as the women's coach at Grays Harbor College. In his first year at the helm, the Choker wrestling team won the inaugural NCWA Women's Western Conference Championship and placed 3rd at the NCWA National Championships. Overall, Pine had nine All-Americans (7 NCWA & 2 WCWA) that first season which includes two National Champions.
Prior to coming to Grays Harbor Pine resided in Las Vegas, NV. While in Nevada he helped establish a girls wrestling presence there. He was the Girls Head National Team Coach for four years as well as being on the Boys National Coaching staff as head and assistant coach over the years. During that time Nevada has produced Pan American and World Team members. Although not currently recognized by the NIAA, the state has hosted an All Girls State Championship or a USA Wrestling Championship during his last four years with the assistance of Pine. He has also volunteered as a youth coach and an assistant coach at Palo Verde HS, Las Vegas, NV.
Pines other coaching credentials include being the Head Coach at Central Washington University where they had 20 All American wrestlers and 40 National qualifiers from 1995-2001 in the NAIA and NCAA II. He also coached at Elma HS and Shelton HS where they had a number of state placers and finalists.
Pine was a 3x Washington State placer and 1986 State Champion. He was a 4x Canadian National placer as well as Greco Roman Champion while attending Simon Fraser University. He finished his collegiate career at Central Washington University with a 5th place at the National Championships. Pine is still active in the sport and has won numerous Masters National Championships and is a 7x World Medalist, the latest, winning the 2018 Freestyle World Championships in Skopjie, Macedonia.
Pine has three adult children, Joshua, Kennady and Tatum.
