The Women's Soccer team from Grays Harbor College opened up its preseason schedule with a split of competitions at the NWAC Fall Festival Friendlies in Eugene, Oregon this past weekend. The Chokers faced the Wenatchee Valley Knights on Saturday. The Knights took a 1-0 lead early in the first half. Grays Harbor answered quickly as Mercedes Cortes scored the first goal on the season at the 22 minute mark. Wenatchee would add two more unanswered goals in the second half to secure the win 3-1. Emily Bjornsgard was cited for strong play in the net. She recorded 7 saves on the day.
The Chokers bounced back on day 2 to take down the Blue Mountain Community College "Timberwolves" 3-0. Cienna Mendez opened the scoring with a goal at the 26 minute mark. That 1-0 lead would hold up through the first half. Mendez tallied another score at the 86 minute mark and Mary Davis closed out the scoring two minutes later with a goal of her own. Bjornsgard had 2 saves in the shutout victory for the Chokers. With a record of 1-1 Grays Harbor will hit the road Tuesday to face Yakima Valley College at 12:00. They then travel to Ontario Oregon to meet the Treasure Valley "Chukars" on Wednesday. 12:00 start time in that contest.
