The Grays Harbor College baseball team earned a split in Thursday's doubleheader against the Olympic Rangers, highlighted by a dominant complete-game shutout from Sophomore pitcher Diego Morfin in Game 1.
Grays Harbor opened the day with a strong 6-0 victory behind an all-around team effort at the plate and a lights-out performance on the mound. Morfin went the distance, throwing all nine innings while allowing just four hits and striking out 10 Olympic hitters. He pounded the strike zone throughout the afternoon, throwing 77 strikes on 111 pitches to earn the win.
Offensively, the Chokers collected 12 hits in the opener. Tucker Kemph led the way with two hits and two RBIs, while Ian Williams added a pair of hits and drove in a run. Walker Livingston continued his strong season with two hits, including a double, and an RBI of his own.
Extra-base hits came from Cooper Crutcher, Hugo Cubillan, Chris Larrosa, and Livingston as Grays Harbor steadily built its lead throughout the afternoon.
Game 2 proved tougher for the Chokers as Olympic responded with a 10-3 win to split the series. Despite the loss, Grays Harbor showed patience at the plate with six walks and received solid contributions from several players.
Peyton Robbins provided one of the biggest offensive moments of the game with a triple and RBI, while Samuel Polanco added a hit and drove in a run. Kemph reached base twice and scored, and Nolen Miller worked two walks and scored a run.
The Chokers return home this Saturday for their season finale, which will also serve as Sophomore Night. Grays Harbor will honor its sophomore class in between games while hosting Olympic scheduled for 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. at home.
