Grays Harbor College is proud to welcome Virgil Matthews as the new Head Coach of the Men’s Basketball program. A veteran of the game, Coach Matthews brings a wealth of experience from both his professional playing career and time on the sidelines. After a standout college career at University of Montana, Matthews played professionally overseas for more than a decade, primarily in Germany, where he was known for his leadership, versatility, and basketball IQ.

Since transitioning into coaching, Matthews has continued to impact the game at the collegiate level, including coaching stops at the University of Montana and other respected programs. He brings a player-first mentality and a commitment to developing student-athletes on and off the court. Matthews' global perspective and high-level experience make him a strong addition to the Chokers family.
