Grays Harbor traveled to Russell Road Park in Kent to take on the Green River "Gators" in a NWAC Western Region Doubleheader this past Sunday. The Chokers would come away with a sweep of the Gators. In game 1 the Chokers scored early. Sawyer Rhoden singled to open the contest, stole second, and scored on an RBI walk issued to Jayden Cabbab. In the fifth inning, Rhoden and Koby Millner each singled, and moved into scoring position on a Michael Jarvis sacrifice bunt. The Gators then replaced starting pitcher Nick Bowersock with reliever Tyce Miller. The Gators intentionally walked Devin Burleigh to load the bases. Cabbab singled in Rhoden to make it a 2-0 game. Juan Navarrete then delivered a bases clearing 3 run triple to close out the scoring in the 5th and increase the lead to 5-0. The Gators would score a pair of runs in the 7th inning. Bowersock doubled with one out and scored on a triple by Tim Adams. Tyce Miller then delivered a sacrifice fly to plate Miller. The Chokers scored 5 more times in the 9th to close out the scoring and secure the 10-2 win. Luke Thoreson pitched 4 and a third scoreless innings, giving up 3 hits and striking out 5 batters. Jack Hannah pitched the remainder of the game giving up 2 runs, 6 hits, and striking out 5 to record the win.
Game 2 was more of a pitching battle with the Chokers coming out on top 3-1. The Grays harbor club took advantage of 2 Green River errors to plate 2 runs in the third. Peyton Green had a one out single, advanced to second on a pass ball, and scored on a error on Koby Millners' ground ball to the second baseman. After Navarrete reached on an error as well, Brad Kramer singled to score Millner. In the bottom of the third, sophomore Starter, Andrew Snyder, got himself into some trouble with 3 straight walks to load the bases with one out. Tyce Miller drove in the only Gator run with a sacrifice fly. The Chokers added one more run in the fifth inning. Millner led off with a single and was plated on a two out single by Cabbab. Snyder picked up the win with a complete game performance. Andrew gave up just the one run, one hit, and recorded 7 strikeouts. The Chokers take on the Pierce Raiders in a single game today. Next home action for GHC team will be Sunday as the Chokers host the Lower Columbia Red Devils at Olympic Stadium in Hoquiam. Start time is 1 pm for the doubleheader.
