Moses Lake, WA - The wrestling team got its first dual of the season yesterday and easily defeated the Vikings 41-10. "We are just happy to get the opportunity to compete. It is a challenge to just practice everyday and keep the team motivated," said Coach
Joel Veloni.
Highlights of the dual were
Saul Rocha's (El Paso, TX) 18-3 technical fall over Eddie Rodriguez at 141. Rocha used a combination of attacks scoring off of sweep singles, low singles as well as counter shots to score on his opponent. Coach Boeger said, "it was like watching a mini clinic." Rocha is a recent transfer from Wayland Baptist University and we are happy to have him.
Desmond Bowers (Las Vegas, NV) looked strong in his bout as well. He went out aggressive and had a big throw and a big double leg lift both of which landed out of bounds for no score. Bowers eventually scored a takedown in the center of the mat and was able to secure an arm bar that his opponent could not break. Bowers got two turns out of the hold and scored a fall will a minute left in the first round.
The Chokers next competition is the Last Chance Olympic Qualifier March 26-27 in Ft Worth, Texas.
