Aberdeen, WA - Entering the 2022-23 season the Grays Harbor College Women's basketball team had not won a game in 1,354 days. But, under the guidance of Coach Adam Todd-Thomas, the Chokers snapped the winless streak with a home victory Tuesday night over Northwest Indian College 67-48.
The Chokers led with a balanced attack by controlling the paint and out rebounding their opponents 49-23. NWIC was only down 33-27 at the halftime break but the Chokers shut them down in the second by holding them to just 21 second half points. GHC was led by Sheridan Green's 38 points and 8 rebound performance along with Elizabeth Serna's 13 rebound effort on the glass.
Todd-Thomas said after the game, "It's great to not only get my first win as a college head coach but to break the streak of 1,354 days that this community and this program hasn't had a win. It was definitely much needed for the program and the community to get back to winning ways and while this was not our best performance, we definitely took steps tonight towards our end goal and we improved in a lot of areas across the board. We want to enjoy this one tonight, but the job is far from done for this team."
The Chokers are now 1-3 on the season with their next game back on the road at Yakima Valley Community College, November 29th at 5pm.
