LADY CHOKERS TAKE DOWN TACOMA IN CONFERENCE ROAD SHOWDOWN

1/29/2023 9:42:00 PM

Tacoma, WA - Yesterday's game was a showdown between two rebuilding programs in the NWAC West. Both squads were in search for the first conference win of the year and the Chokers prevailed by a score of 73-70.

The first quarter of action ended with both teams being locked at 17 after some fast paced action. The second quarter was much the same and saw the Lady Chokers entering the main break down by 2. The team then rallied after the half time break, coming out on a 10-0 run to start the 3rd quarter of action. The lead got out to 12 in the third quarter before Tacoma battled back to be within 8 halfway through the fourth quarter. The Chokers got some timely buckets from Aaliyah Hill and Sheridan Green down the stretch to seal the win.

GHC put four players in double digits lead by Sheridan Green's 24 point, 9 rebound afternoon along with Elizabeth Serna's 14 points, Aaliyah Hills 13 points and Abby Martinez's 12 points.

This was a drought breaking win the women's program in conference play. Coach Adam Todd-Thomas's squad snapped a 4 year drought without a conference win with the last conference victory prior to Saturday was February 27, 2019.

After the game Coach Adam Todd-Thomas said, "A win is a win, you always have to enjoy a win because you never know when your next one is going to come. Super proud of this group and the work they put in day in and day out, a great effort across the board for us, four girls in double figures in a challenging road win. We still have a lot of work to do to tighten up on some things defensively, but we will enjoy this win and prepare for Highline next week"

Grays Harbor will be back at home Wednesday night at 6pm against Highline Community College.
