Bats Come Alive in Game 2 for the Chokers Who Split 1-1 on the Day

2/17/2024 11:18:00 PM

The Chokers came out cold in Game 1 vs Wenatchee Valley College Saturday morning as the rain came down to open the season.  With only one hit through four innings the Chokers just couldn't get a rally going despite having several runners on base due to walks in the slippery conditions.  Finishing with only one run through those innings was all the Chokers could manage. On the flip side, Wenatchee Valley was able to capitalize on those same slippery conditions and scratched across a total of 12 runs, backed by two homeruns, to beat the Chokers.  The Chokers did wake up in the bottom of the fifth inning, scratching one run across on three hits but it just wasn't enough as the WVC Knights closed the door on the game taking down the Chokers 12-2.

Game 2, however, was a completely different story for the Chokers.  Picking up where they left off in the last inning vs WVC, The Chokers came out swinging against the Pierce College Raiders like they had something to prove!  Tallying 10 runs on 7 hits, including a bases clearing double by Carron Blood and a homerun by Kaitlyn Doucette, the Chokers set the momentum in the first inning and never looked back!  Totaling 13 hits and 13 runs total by the Chokers, backed by stellar defense and a great combined performance in the circle, the Chokers blanked the Raiders 13-0 in five innings.  Kaitlyn Doucette, Lexi Cudaback and Carron Blood combined for the shutout win, while Kaitlyn Doucette and Ronni Graham both hit homeruns for the Chokers.  Cayleigh White and Kylee Espinoza both had triples while Ciara Mennitto had two doubles and Carron Blood chipped in a double.  While lots of Chokers had great games today, none of them were as consistent as our Player of the Day, Desiree Becherer who went 4 for 6 with 3 RBI's, 4 runs scored and a walk, all while playing great defense throughout the day and scooping up a hard hit one hopper with the bases loaded in Game 2, sealing the shutout and the victory!

Overall the Chokers had a great opening day and now that those game 1 nerves are out of the way, they are looking to do great things this season!  Next up the Chokers are back at it tomorrow 2/18 at 11am and 1:30pm to once again take on Pierce College and Wenatchee Valley College. The Chokers will look to once again keep the Raiders off the board and will be hungry for payback against the Knights!
