The Chokers split 1-1 on the day, topping Pierce 8-6 in the morning game and falling to Wenatchee Valley in the late game.
In the morning, Pierce came out hot after the loss to The Chokers the day before, putting up 4 runs in the top of the 1st inning. The Chokers worked hard through the next few innings scratching runs back each inning until they tied it up at 4-4 in the 4th inning. Staying tied until the top of the 6th, Pierce was able to strike again tacking on 2 runs to go up 6-4. Heading into the bottom of the 6th, Pierce was able to get two quick outs in the first three batters before a costly error allowed
Naomi Chavez to reach 2nd and
Cayleigh White to reach 1st base safely.
Desiree Becherer followed that up with a full count battle that ultimately led to a walk. The suspense couldn't have been better as
Carron Blood stepped to the plate, down 2 runs, bases loaded, 2 outs. Pierce's pitcher got down quickly on Blood starting with 2 balls out of the zone. On a 2-0 count, Blood stepped into a pitch left over the middle of the plate and belt high, crushing it over the right-center fence for a no doubt, lead changing GRAND SLAM, going up 8-6 over Pierce. Blood then stepped into the circle in the top of the 7th inning and with great pitching and great defense, shut down Pierce to seal the victory.
The afternoon game was a different story, however, as WVC strolled to victory putting up a quick 9 runs in the top of the first inning and cruising the rest of the way. The overall total was 15-3 WVC over The Chokers. "WVC was just playing great this weekend. Their bats were on fire and their pitching was dialed in. I hope we get a chance to see them again down the road because while they are a great team, I don't think we played even half our best against them." said Coach
Jake White about the loss.
The Chokers are set to take on Everett Community College on Saturday 2/24 at home (Bishop Athletic Complex) and then Highline Community College on the road, Sunday 2/25. Lets hope the weather holds out! Go Chokers!
