The
Chokers proved they are a team to be reckoned with in the closing games of NWAACC play with a heartbreaking
92-83 OT loss at home. The road
Penguins may have believed they were in for a cake walk after starting the game ahead 8-2. But before the Penguins could look back up at the scoreboard, they were down 8-10. From that moment on, the game was a grueling battle, with neither team being able to take a stanglehold on the contest. The game was noted as being the most phyical, hard fought, contest in recent memory for Choker fans.
At the end of regulation, the Chokers just missed on their chance to take the upset win.
KC Harrison, who finished with 11 points, missed a three point attempt in the waning moments of the game, only to be rebounded by
McGriff, who missed a game winning desperation attempt of his own.
Overtime was identical to regulation as it referred to lead changes and questioning who would end up winning the game. However, with about a minute left in the contest, Clark gained a two possession lead forcing the Chokers to foul. The final score certainly doesn't represent how the overtime period was played by both teams.
There is no doubt the Choker players were heart broken at night's end. However, they can take a big win from the contest. They now know, for sure, they can compete with, and beat any team in the
NWAACC. Clark came into the contest ranked #1 in the NWAACC with a
20-1 record. Had Clark lost this epic battle, they couldn't claim they beat themselves. They would be forced to recognize that the Chokers had beaten them as both teams played at seemingly their highest level of play.
