Native American Classic Shines Bright for Tribal Youth and Student Athletes (updated)

11/17/2019 1:09:00 PM

The 2nd inaugural Native American Classic finishes up today, as the GHC men will face JHI Prep at 2pm. The classic has been a success for the Choker men, as they have gone 2 - 0, in the NAC entering into today. The partnership between the Grays Harbor College Native Pathways Program and GHC Athletics has received nothing but great reviews from the community members that have attended the games.

Last night, the men's team beat Southeastern University and then turned their attention to the NAC basketball camp. It was a long day for the student athletes, but they were rewarded with smiles and energetic youth eager to sharpen their basketball skills. The three hour camp was filled with drills, games and laughter. The camp received a huge surprise when Wenatchee Valley College student athletes and their Head Coach Jeremy Harden walked into the gym, about an hour after it started.

It didn't take long before it was WVC student athletes coaching a group of youths vs the GHC student athletes. Parents and college coaches alike sat back watching the youth play for the pure love of the game. Hoquiam HS girl's head coach and former GHC women's head coach Chad Allan stopped in to support the camp, as well.

The 2019 Grays Harbor College NAC has been a great event for tribal youth, all our communities youth and the college athletic programs that have played games. Grays Harbor College finished the tournament by defeating Just Handle It Prep 93 - 85. The GHC men will be in action November 23rd and 24th. They will play in the Edmonds Classic at Edmonds Community College.
