The Choker men's basketball team continued their winning ways defeating the Pacific University Boxers JV team, last night. The GHC men outscored the Boxers 120 - 85. The Chokers had 6 players in double figures. All GHC players scored in the contest. The men were paced by
Michael Sampson,
Zach Marrotte and
Daylon Ramsey who scored a combined 56 points. It was the board work early of Genuwine Powell, who kicked started things for the Chokers. Genuwine Powell ended with 12 rebounds and 4 assists.
The Chokers are halfway through a 2 game stretch that has them covering 346 miles, in 24 hrs. The Choker men made time to stop at Miler Junior High School in Aberdeen, before hitting the road for their games (story to come). It was the community outreach that had head coach
Matthew Vargas most proud, after the teams road win. "This is a special group of young men. What we ask them to do when some are injured, not feeling very well and emotionally drained after finals is not easy. It is college athletics, though. I love the way they always seem to rise to the occasion. They were great with the classes at Miller and during the music concert performance. Heck, we even had Charlie Choker with us. It was great. The team then loaded up to play a game 160 miles away and win? You have to tip your hat.", stated Vargas.
The Chokers take on one of the favorites in the NWAC, to compete for the championship, Umpqua Community College. The Choker men are set for tip off at 2pm. The GHC men's team next home games are December 20th, 21st and 22nd - in the NWAC Crossover Tournament. Come out and support Choker student athletes.
