Chokers Down But Never Out - Win in O.T.!

12/9/2019 9:16:00 AM

In an improbable game, with a storyline that felt like it needed a band aid, the Grays Harbor College men's basketball team pulled out an inspiring win, last Saturday evening. The Chokers entered the contest with several players nursing injuries and battling the flu. One GHC player arrived at the gym during pregame with a 101 degree fever and was sent home. Yet, the Chokers found a way to get the job done over the Edmonds Tritons. The final score of the game was 86 - 84.
Michael Sampson, sophomore guard, led all scorers with 26 points. Genuwine Powell added 23 points, 11 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals to help the GHC men. In a wild and crazy game that saw the Chokers overcome their 15 point second half deficit it was the team stat line that impressed. The Grays Harbor men shot 72% from the field in the second half. The Chokers shot 50% from behind the arc in the second half, as well.

Tristan Schoepf who was perfect from the field and free throw line, scoring 11 points in 10 minutes of play, stated, "The teams energy never died throughout the game. We still believed we could overcome the 15 point deficit, in the final seven minutes .. and we did."

It was a tremendous game for the entire team and a well deserved victory that revealed plenty about this team's heart.

The Chokers next home games will be during the NWAC Crossover Tournament that will take place here December 20th through the 22nd. Come out and support the student athletes of Grays Harbor College!
