Surprise, AZ - The women's team competed at the National Duals which pitted the top three teams Ottawa University -Arizona, Grays Harbor College and Washington State University against each other. The Chokers knocked off Washington State University in the first round 36-24. It is the second time the team has defeated the Cougars this season.
The Chokers faced off with Ottawa University - Arizona in the final after they defeated WSU in the second round. The Wolves jumped out to an early lead in the dual and dominated throughout, defeating GHC 40-18. "Ottawa is a well coached and an experienced team. We certainly have some work in front of us if we are going to catch them at Nationals," said assistant coach
Kateri Rowell.
The following day the teams switched styles from folkstyle to freestyle and competed in the first Freestyle National Championships hosted by the NCWA. The team stepped up and came home with three champions.
Katie Gakin 170 (Aberdeen, WA) avenged a loss from the day before to defeat #2 ranked Cheyenne Williams of Ottawa in the final.
Reneah Ureste 191(Chief Sealth, HS) also recorded a big win over #2 Trinity Robinson from Ottawa in the final. Ureste dropped a match to her earlier in the season but turned the tide this weekend with win in the dual as well. At 235, the Chokers put two wrestlers in the finals.
Kali Hood (Columbus, MT) overcame her teammate JoJera Dodge (Kirtland, NM) to earn first place.

Ottawa University dominated the event with six champions, the Chokers had three and both University of Colorado and Grand Canyon University had one each.
